MARK 1:1-20, PSALM 17, PROVERBS 3:31-35
MARK 1:1-20 John Maxwell notes that John the Baptist prepared the way for change.
How good do I respond to change? Do I help prepare the way for change? Generally, humans don't like change.
Maxwell also says that the Messiah was different to what the Jewish people expected, so John the Baptist had to get people ready for a radical shift.
When we want to see transformation do we welcome it & aid it, or stifle & hinder it?
v.14& 15 - Jesus begins His ministry & says to believe in the gospel. Believe in the Good News!
v.17 - Fishermen to fishers of men. It's all about people, not just fish! Love people, love yourself. Don't be hard on yourself. Learn from your mistakes, repent, turn to Jesus, get up & go again, go forward. Love yourself & others. (I believe that is for one of the readers today)
PSALM 17
v.12 - David's enemies (v.9) are likened to lions lurking in secret places, eager to tear their prey.
Ephesians 6:12 - Our battle is not against flesh & blood
1 Peter 5:8 - The enemy roars around LIKE a roaring lion.
Note: "LIKE".
He is a counterfeit & falls short of what he wants to imitate (eg. love imitated by lust), for it is the LION OF JUDAH that has won, overcome & conquered (Rev 5:5)
PROVERBS 3:31-35
v.32 - The perverse person is an abomination to God.
Perverse = twisted (MSG version)
Abomination = can't stand it (MSG)
v.33 - God blesses the home of the righteous
v.35 - Wise living gets rewarded with glory, honor & good.
