(sorry long post follows - J)
" It's very easy to fall into step with the world's thinking and put on the world's attitudes about life. When our lives fail to embrace discipline and our desires become selfish, it's time to stop and re-evaluate our lives. " - John Maxwell
With my current progress in my weight loss goal, people have commented to me about my discipline as being evident.
I guess this is a metaphor for the spiritual also. Discipline brings success, whatever the arena. It brings achieved goals. It brings a sense of accomplishment & celebration to follow.
We need to be disciplined in our bible reading, prayer & church attendance (*note - not to win salvation but to aid our spiritual growth & enrich our relationship with God & others)
Romans 10:17, Hebrews 10:25
I also need to be disciplined in my thoughts, words & actions. I guess the last 2 are very much determined by the first one - my thoughts.
Proverbs 23:7, Matthew 12:34
An area in need of discipline is definitely my mind. If looked after, it will assist in achieving great results & fruit produced via great words & actions.
Romans 12:2 - " Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. "
Just like my commitment to my weight loss & the discipline required, my walk with God is a daily decision (Luke 9:23)
Transformed by the renewing of our mind....a redeemed mind is only possible with a Redeemer & His Name is JESUS CHRIST!
Tell it to the world!
"With my own eyes I've seen your salvation; it's now out in the open for everyone to see: A God-revealing light to the non-Jewish nations, and of glory for your people Israel. "
